As more travelers seek welcoming and inclusive experiences, the need for thoughtful, representation-forward media has never been more important. At Kirvan Photography + Film, we specialize in helping resorts and tourism operators tell authentic stories through visual content. This includes showcasing diversity and belonging.
Our recent project with Wilderness North Resorts, a remote fly-in fishing lodge in Northern Ontario, is a perfect example. It shows how 2SLGBTQ+ friendly northern travel photography can help a destination stand out as both adventurous and inclusive.
Wilderness North invited us, along with a romantic couple, Tyler and Trever, to spend three days at their off-grid fishing resort. Our goal was clear: to create a library of images that showcased both the resort’s stunning location and its rugged adventure opportunities. At the same time, we wanted to highlight its warm, welcoming environment for 2SLGBTQ+ guests.
Through careful planning, natural storytelling, and plenty of outdoor magic, we captured a wide range of moments. Consequently, the resort now has authentic visuals that allow it to proudly and effectively market itself as inclusive.
Our first creative goal was to show that this fly-in fishing experience is truly for everyone. From the moment Tyler and Trever stepped off the pontoon plane, we captured their journey into a wild and stunning part of Northern Ontario.
Images of the couple on fishing boats, hiking rugged shorelines, exploring the lake, and standing in sweeping landscapes highlighted the camp’s full adventure potential. Therefore, the resort feels more than just a destination—it’s an open invitation to explore.
By placing two openly gay men at the center of the story, we sent a clear and inclusive message: everyone is welcome here.
Fishing may be the main attraction, but there’s also space for tenderness and connection. One of our favorite parts of the shoot was capturing the romantic potential of a northern retreat.
We documented quiet, meaningful moments, including morning coffee on the cabin porch wrapped in cozy sweaters. In addition, we captured sunset picnics on a private beach and long walks along forest trails. Moreover, we photographed moments of connection under the stars, creating a full narrative of intimacy and adventure.
With the right images, we helped redefine the idea of a “fishing trip.” Therefore, it can also be a romantic and rejuvenating escape for couples.
While remote, Wilderness North doesn’t skimp on comfort. Additionally, a major goal of this shoot was highlighting modern amenities and fun on-site activities.
We captured everything from paddleboarding and swimming to volleyball games and lively campfire hangouts. Moreover, we documented board games, late-night card matches, a well-stocked kitchen, and reliable internet for guests wanting to stay connected.
These lifestyle images clearly show that the resort combines comfort, convenience, and community, even in the heart of the northern wilderness. Furthermore, the photos help travelers visualize both adventure and relaxation in one unforgettable experience.
From arrival to departure, we captured Tyler and Trever’s full journey at Wilderness North. First, the pontoon plane landing marked the exciting start of their adventure.
Throughout their stay, we documented candid moments that showed the natural flow of wilderness days. These included active outdoor pursuits, quiet intimate moments, group activities, and peaceful solitude. Additionally, we highlighted interactions with staff and other guests to showcase the welcoming environment.
By capturing this complete experience, we created a visual story that helps potential visitors easily imagine themselves enjoying every aspect of the resort. Furthermore, the imagery reinforces the resort’s adventurous, inclusive, and relaxing appeal.
One of our final goals was to highlight Northern Ontario as a world-class travel destination. Too often, travelers overlook local beauty while searching abroad.
However, Wilderness North proves that adventure and breathtaking scenery exist right at home. Moreover, guests enjoy unique experiences paired with authentic Canadian hospitality.
By showcasing this, we help position Northern Ontario as a must-visit destination for both adventure seekers and couples looking for a romantic getaway.
