Recently, I photographed Amanda and Lance’s beautiful wedding in Schreiber, and it turned out to be one of those experiences that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with this work.
Amanda and Lance live in Schreiber, a charming town just a short drive from Thunder Bay. Although it was a bit of a journey, I was genuinely excited to travel for their wedding. Every out-of-town shoot is an opportunity to explore a new location, connect with new people, and bring fresh eyes to a familiar celebration.
Schreiber’s small-town vibe made the event feel intimate and personal in a way that is hard to manufacture. I connected with the couple in their hometown, met their family and friends, and captured breathtaking shots at Schreiber Beach. Altogether, the setting proved to be a photographer’s dream.
Smooth Planning for Out-of-Town Weddings
Smooth planning is essential for any out-of-town wedding, and Amanda and Lance made the process easy from the very start. They reached out months before their big day to discuss logistics, which gave us plenty of time to think through every detail carefully and without pressure.
After some consideration, we decided that staying in Schreiber the night before and after the wedding would work best for everyone. This gave me the ability to start early, stay focused throughout the day, and avoid any last-minute travel stress that could affect the shoot.
Arriving the night before also meant I could get a feel for the town and the venue before the day began, which always helps. Amanda and Lance arranged my accommodation, making the whole experience seamless. While I did not charge for the travel day itself, extra funds were set aside for travel and lodging, and having that conversation early made everything straightforward.
The Unique Charm of Out-of-Town Weddings
One of the things I love most about out-of-town weddings is that each town brings its own distinct character to the day. You are not just photographing a wedding. You are photographing a community, a place, and the people who belong to it.
With Amanda and Lance, I had the chance to capture the essence of Schreiber, from the warmth of their close-knit celebrations to the stunning natural backdrop of the beach. Every detail felt specific to them and to where they are from, and that specificity is what makes the final images feel so meaningful.
Out-of-town weddings like this one are some of the most rewarding experiences I have as a photographer. The extra effort of travel pays off the moment you arrive and realize the setting is unlike anything you would find closer to home.
