Recently, I had the pleasure of doing a professional family photo session with my client Jess and her family. When she called to ask if I could drive out to her countryside property, I was more than happy to make the trip. Afterward, we picked a date that worked for everyone and prepared for a relaxed, meaningful session.
On the day of the shoot, the weather was chilly and overcast. However, instead of getting in the way, the moody skies created a spectacular atmosphere. Additionally, the soft light and cool air gave the session a cozy, autumn-like feel. To keep everyone comfortable, we brought blankets outside so the family could stay warm between shots, which also brought them closer together.
The session was relaxed and full of laughter. As a result, we captured plenty of group shots, as well as different combinations of the three of them. Moreover, what made this professional family photo session truly special was the variety of natural backdrops on their property. For example, without moving more than a few steps, we took portraits near an old wooden fence, along a quiet dirt road, and with a stunning mountain range in the background.
Each location brought a different mood to the photos, and together, they told a beautiful story of this family’s life in the country. As a result, Jess and her family were thrilled with the final gallery and mentioned they’d love to book another session in the future.
Sessions like these are a reminder of why I love what I do. In fact, a professional family photo session isn’t just about pictures—it’s about preserving connection, love, and a little slice of life as it is right now.
