Recently, I had the pleasure of doing a professional family photo session with my client Jess and her family. She gave me a call and asked if I could drive out to her property in the countryside to capture some family portraits. I was more than happy to make the trip, and we picked a date that worked for everyone.
On the day of the shoot, the weather was a little chilly and overcast. But rather than getting in the way, the moody skies created a spectacular atmosphere. The soft light and cool air gave the entire session a cozy, autumn-like feel. To keep everyone comfortable, we brought blankets outside so the family could stay warm between shots and honestly, it brought them closer togetrher.
The session was relaxed and full of laughter. We captured plenty of group shots, as well as different combinations of the three of them. What made this professional family photo session truly special was the variety of natural backdrops right on their property. Without moving more than a few steps, we were able to take portraits near an old wooden fence, along a quiet dirt road, and with a stunning mountain range in the background.
Each location brought a different mood to the photos, and together they told a beautiful story of this family’s life in the country. Jess and her family were thrilled with the final gallery and mentioned they’d love to book another session in the future.
Sessions like these are a reminder of why I love what I do. A professional family photo session isn’t just about pictures, it’s about preserving connection, love, and a little slice of life as it is right now.
