When Jeff and Sofie first reached out to us, they were buzzing with excitement. This was their first child, and they wanted to capture the joy and anticipation they were feeling in a way that would last forever. Like many couples, they knew they wanted something beautiful and meaningful. But they weren’t quite sure where to take maternity photos? That’s where we stepped in.
Choosing a location for a maternity shoot isn’t just about finding a pretty spot. It’s about creating a space where expectant parents feel comfortable, supported, and safe. Pregnancy can bring a whole range of mobility challenges. The key to taking great images is understanding these challenges and working within our limitations to create something beautiful, safe, and memorable. Our goal is always to find places that offer the best of both worlds: stunning scenery and easy access.
When we started planning Jeff and Sofie’s session, we had a few ideas in mind. They told us they loved the idea of natural landscapes. They wanted something that felt peaceful and open, with a bit of that Thunder Bay magic. After some back and forth, we decided on Chippawa Park. It turned out to be the perfect choice.
Chippawa Park offers gorgeous views of the Sleeping Giant and Lake Superior. It has a mix of forest, water, and open spaces to play with. But more importantly, it’s incredibly practical. There are multiple parking areas throughout the park, well-maintained trails, and even public washrooms—all small details that make a huge difference during a maternity shoot. We were able to hop between locations easily without needing to walk far, which gave us a ton of variety without any stress.
The weather that day was: cool, damp, and unpredictable. But the sky had this soft, moody glow to it—something you can’t plan for, but when it happens, it’s magic. We used our cars not just for getting around, but as cozy warming stations between shots. It made a huge difference. Jeff and Sofie stayed comfortable, relaxed, and full of laughter the whole time.
And the photos? They radiated love. There’s something powerful about capturing people in a moment where they’re totally in it—excited, a little nervous, dreaming about the future. That’s what we saw in Jeff and Sofie’s eyes. You could feel the connection between them, the anticipation of meeting their little one, and the joy of being on this journey together.
For us, that’s what maternity photography is all about. It’s not just about where you take the photos—it’s about how those spaces make you feel. And when you’re with the right photographer, one who understands how to keep things comfortable, meaningful, and fun, the whole experience becomes something you’ll treasure long after your baby arrives.
If you’re wondering where to take your own maternity photos, we’d love to help you find a spot that feels just right. Whether it’s in Thunder Bay or beyond, we’ll be there to make the process simple, joyful, and unforgettable.
